What do I need to open an account at the International Banking Center?

You need to personally visit our IBC facilities.  As identification, you must have and provide a valid passport when opening an account.  You also have to justify your non-residential status.  The reason for this is that the interest earned in an account based in the IBC is tax-exempt in Puerto Rico.    Generally every six months, the bank does a check to confirm your non-resident status.  Should you decide to establish residency in Puerto Rico, your account will be transferred to one of our local branches. The fees for a resident account are lower than for a non-resident account.
